Sunshine Sundays Open Mic (feat) Notes from Underground
December 10, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm UTC+0
**** Notes from Underground ****
Notes from Underground is a musical collaboration between violinist, Yoon-ji Kim, and percussionist, Julian Humphries. Since 2007 they have worked together in a variety of projects, and this latest incarnation is a culmination of those experiments. Drawing influences from symphonic movements, jazz greats, folkloric griots, classic literature and works of art, they fuse contemporary classical with borderline jazz and new world over hip-hop break-beats and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
Born in South Korea and raised in London, violinist Yoon-ji Kim graduated from the RCM in 2003. Since then she has worked as a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and composer in a variety of projects, ranging in style from contemporary classical and Latin jazz to experimental world and psychedelic soul. Currently she is working as a librettist for a new opera and continues to write and record music.
London born percussionist, Julian Humphries, studied tabla in India, Manding and Wolof music in West Africa and Afro-Brazilian carnival music in Salvador, Bahia. Julian has worked as a professional musician for over thirty years, touring in bands, theatre companies and dance troupes. Currently, Julian runs his own percussion school, which he opened in 2005, and works as an orchestral musician as well as playing and recording with some of the countries most exciting artists and producers.
